Specialist sites
There are many specialist websites that cater to interest in particular themes or aspects of ceramics history rather than focusing on particular manufacturers.
A commercial site founded in 1995 to service collectors seeking blue and white transfer printed patterns. The site maintains a large virtual museum of blue & white shapes and patterns and has a matching service for those seeking to complete sets.
A site devoted to pottery piggybanks with much interesting information on their manufacturers.
A site developed by noted ceramic sculptor Peter Holland and devoted to all aspects of ceramic sculpture. There are histories of the major bone china manufacturers, a newsletter, a figurines gallery and guides for novice sculptors working in clay.
Beswick is well known for its equine models, but other manufacturers also produced high quality models of horses and equestrian subjects. This site has some 2,500 pages and contains 25,000 images.
Site dedicated to the transfer printed china patterns featuring representations of the asiatic pheasant one of the most popular oriental motifs used by British potters in the 19th Century.
A site with extensive information on UK and European ceramics, including histories, makers marks and a glossary of terms. There is comprehensive coverage of the early UK ceramics manufacturers. Despite the site’s name, it also has extensive coverage of other categories of antiques.
retrowow is an online resource about aspects of life in Britain in the 1950s, 60s and 70s and includes coverage of ‘retro collectibles’ including ceramics.
